Hamstrings are often undervalued in riding! They are the muscles that bend you knee and help keep your knee bent so that your heel stays in line with hips. Thats not to say we want hamstrings gripping (we dont!) and its that gripping happening when people lift there heels up to put their leg on (and often lose a stirrup!). We want it to be working to keep lower leg stable not gripping! If lower leg is stable AND in the correct alignment the rise will be much easier for you to extend through hips
