Jan 22, 2023 · Modern "HDR Games" just tonemap their 16bit HDR frames to 10 bit output instead of 8bit output. "Auto HDR" isn't really auto HDR, it's just tone mapping the SDR output to better fit the HDR display they're attached to. If you really want auto HDR you should be using special K, which adds real HDR to many games.

Nov 26, 2022 · Windows 11's auto-HDR is great and should always be turned on. The washed out colours can be fixed by having a monitor that correctly detects an HDR signal and displays in HDR. Like the AW3423DW (F) can use the Dell Display Manager to always have HDR 400 True Black in the desktop, and have HDR 1000 in games.
