The National Park Service is defending its handling of a lightning-sparked wildfire that destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim.

A majority of the damaged and destroyed properties were cabins for visitors, according to data from a preliminary report.

The hike down to Phantom Ranch on July 12 would be one of her longest so far, with a hike of about 7.5 miles on the South Kaibab Trail to get to the bottom, where the Phantom Ranch lodge is located.
