National Hurricane Center forecasters were tracking three disturbances in the Atlantic Ocean Thursday afternoon, including a potential low pressure system in the Caribbean Sea that could bring heavy rains to portions of Central and South America.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As of Thursday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center is now monitoring three areas of interest in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean. First, the Southwestern Caribbean Sea system continues to show signs of development.

A system in the western Caribbean has a high chance for development between Oct. 31 and Nov. 4, according to AccuWeather.

"Some gradual development is possible if the system stays over water while it moves slowly northwestward," the NHC said.

Rafael strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane overnight, with sustained winds of 120 mph, but the latest path seems to be heading away from Florida and the rest of the U.S. in a meandering trip through the Gulf of Mexico where it is expected to weaken over the next few days, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.
