The 23-mile-long twister claimed the lives of five people and caused over $1 billion in damages in the St. Louis region on Friday.

More than two dozen people were killed and dozens more injured as powerful tornadoes and severe storms ripped across Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia and even parts of the Washington, D.

City crews in Clayton, Missouri are working to clear debris from the tornado damage, with residents encouraged to move their cars off the streets to facilitate the process.

Tornadoes and sever storms hit several parts of the US on Friday, leaving at least 23 dead and thousands of buildings damaged.

Tornadoes struck the Midwest over the weekend, hitting cities and towns in Kansas and Missouri. And one snarl on I-70 left experts concerned about tornado safety.

Tornadoes that swept through Kentucky, Missouri and Virginia killed more than two dozen people, destroyed homes and left thousands without power as residents began clearing widespread storm damage.

Roofs peeled off of buildings and trees and utility lines were toppled. The fire chief says at least 20 square blocks of St. Louis were damaged.
