Ngannou entered the Jones vs. Aspinall saga after his coach revealed the ex- UFC heavyweight champion is interested in returning to the promotion, having departed in 2023 after a contract dispute. That immediately alerted 'Bones', who seemed to turn his attention to Ngannou over Aspinall.
Eric Nicksick, Ngannou's coach, previously revealed that a return to UFC was a possibility. The 38-year-old left the promotion in January 2023 and signed with the Professional Fighters League four months later. Ngannou currently holds the PFL Super Fights heavyweight title.
White has long maintained the claim that the fight will happen, something he reiterated again and again Saturday. He also put forth a claim that many following the social media saga might be surprised by. According to White, Jones agreed to fight Aspinall, but has not yet signed paperwork.

During the UFC 316 post-fight press conference on Saturday night, promotional CEO Dana White dropped a major bombshell when he told the media that Jones had accepted a fight with Aspinall. However, it has since been reported by Ariel Helwani that Jones went back on that agreement.
After Ngannou's coach mooted a return to the UFC, Jones called for a "super-fight", to which the Cameroonian has now responded to. "You take care of the UFC, I'll take care of the PFL, and we'll finally find out who's the king of the heavyweight," Ngannou said on social media.
