Much to Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon’s dismay, the NFL’s newest personal safety penalty was not issued on field this season. League executive vice president overseeing player health and safety Jeff Miller confirmed Thursday that a violation of the NFL’s hip-drop tackle rule was not called by officials during a game this year.

The NFL will be fining Joe Mixon after all. After fining Mixon $25,000 for comments he didn't make, the NFL has reissued the fine for what he did say regarding the officials after the Texans' 23-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday,

Mixon's agent said the NFL improperly fined Mixon for remarks to the media about the officiating in the Texans' loss to the Chiefs.

"I'm getting fined by the (NFL) for what someone else said," Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon tweeted earlier this week.

Two-time Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon has been fined $25,000 for comments he made about NFL officiating. The only problem is he didn't make that comment.

The NFL apparently takes criticism of its referees so seriously that you can get fined for criticizing remarks you didn’t actually say.

The NFL earned an estimated $13 billion in revenue from operations in 2023, yet that amount is not good enough. It is important for them to take money out of players’ pockets by imposing fines for disciplinary violations.

The Bengals traded Mixon to the Texans in March in exchange for the 224th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Mixon ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. He also had 36 catches for 309 yards and one touchdown.
