The storms Friday afternoon tore roofs off buildings, ripped bricks off of siding, and downed trees and power lines as residents were urged to take cover.

Roofs peeled from buildings and trees and utility lines toppled. The fire chief says at least 20 square blocks of the city are damaged.

An EF-2 tornado touched down in New Richmond, Wisconsin during Thursday evening's severe storms, the National Weather Service says. There were more than a dozen tornado warnings and multiple observed tornadoes across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
