The Pentagon is ending the deployment of all but 250 National Guard troops that remained in Los Angeles who were originally sent to the city to deal with protests over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

"Approximately 250 California National Guardsmen remain in Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and property," Parnell said. "We greatly appreciate the support of the more than 5,000 Guardsmen and Marines who mobilized to Los Angeles to defend Federal functions against the rampant lawlessness occurring in the city."

In response to the Pentagon's announcement of the release of the Guardsmen in Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass said on X, "Another win for Los Angeles tonight: 1,000 more troops are retreating."
