Local favourite Tommy Paul was beaten in straight sets by former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16.

Twice champion Iga Swiatek thrashed Czech Karolina Muchova 6-1 6-1 to reach the Indian Wells quarter-finals on Tuesday before men's fifth seed Daniil Medvedev moved into the last eight with a 6-4 6-0 win over American Tommy Paul.

Russia's Daniil Medvedev shook off a day of rain delays to beat Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-0 on Tuesday and reach the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, where he's vying to improve on runner-up finishes the past two years.

After reaching the semifinals last year, a win on Tuesday would've made Paul just the sixth American to reach back-to-back Indian Wells quarterfinals this century. The five who've done that include Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, James Blake and Taylor Fritz.

Daniil Medvedev advanced to the Indian Wells quarterfinals by defeating Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-0. The match experienced multiple rain delays and finished almost four hours later than scheduled. Medvedev capitalized on Paul's numerous unforced errors to claim victory.
