The latest report from David Ornstein suggests United are not close to signing Mbeumo despite Ineos negotiating with Brentford for close to six weeks. United have had two bids for Mbeumo rejected by Brentford, and the Bees have now raised their asking price closer to £70 million.
Further fueling the reports of a deal being struck is Brentford lining up a move for Ipswich Town attacker Omari Hutchinson as a direct replacement. The London Evening Standard says no formal contact has been made with relegated Ipswich, but Hutchinson is the player they see ready to fill the void once Mbeumo departs.
Brentford will also need to sign a replacement but they face a race against time to land their chosen candidate. They have reportedly identified Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson as the ideal player to succeed Mbeumo.
