In a February 2025 memo to staffers, Lester Holt confirmed he will exit as anchor of "NBC Nightly News," a position he has held since 2015.

Rafferty will be vp of news standards, guiding the MSNBC and CNBC news operations once the Versant split is complete.

The no-nonsense style is reportedly upsetting staffers used to a more laid-back approach from Holt, multiple people 'familiar with the' matter said.

Rafferty has led Nightly News since 2021, working with both Lester Holt and Tom Llamas. The broadcast is expected to name a new ep in the coming weeks, with Rafferty moving to Versant in September.
