Social media users are cautioned against falling for a fake online ad that promotes discounted rates for DMV services. Such discounts don't exist.

Authorities across the area are warning the public about a text message scam. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Johnson City Police Department, Kingsport Police Department, and Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies that issued warnings Thursday.

If you’ve received a suspicious text appearing to be from the Department of Motorized Vehicles, you might want to double check it, but you wouldn’t be the only one.
