Air Canada and the union representing 10,000 flight attendants resumed talks late Monday for the first time since the flight attendants' strike began over the weekend.

The strike officially began just before 1 a.m. ET on Saturday, and Air Canada locked out flight attendants about 30 minutes later due to the strike action.

Air Canada, in a statement, estimated that the strike, which began early Saturday morning, had resulted in the cancellation of flights for 500,000 passengers.
