Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has said the preliminary report into the crash of the London-bound plane found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft and its engines. In an internal memo to airline staff, Mr Wilson said the report stated all mandatory maintenance tasks of the aircraft had been completed.

Amid conversations about Boeing fuel switches’ potential involvement in the Air India Flight 171 tragedy last month, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing reportedly believe that the latter’s fuel switches are safe.

The deadly Air India crash last month has renewed a decades-old debate in the aviation industry over installing video cameras monitoring airline pilot actions to complement the cockpit voice and flight data recorders already used by accident investigators.

The first officer asked the more experienced captain why he moved the switches to the "cutoff" position after it climbed off the runway, the report said.
