The UK is braced for the fourth heatwave of the year as temperatures begin to soar, with warnings they could reach 34C. The heat is set to peak in the mid-thirties in the south of England, according to the Met Office, with London marking 32C on Tuesday.

Spain's state meteorological agency has issued red weather alerts in the Guadalquivir Valley, in the south, where temperatures are due to reach 44C (111F). Part of the northern Basque Country, which is usually a relatively cool region, is also on red alert, facing temperatures of 40C.
