Braelon Allen's role in New York Jets offense becoming more clear after first preseason game
Former Wisconsin Badgers running back Braelon Allen will have more opportunity in the New York Jets backfield to show them he's ready to take over the lead role from Breece Hall.
R unning backs experienced a renaissance in 2024 thanks mostly to the likes of Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Josh Jacobs. But while their collective production -- coupled with team success -- has likely helped all running backs financially, it is still mostly normal for clubs to deploy a clear running back by committee approach.
2024: The No. 134 overall pick of the draft, Allen went wire to wire as the Jets’ “1B” back behind Breece Hall, but it ended up amounting to only three scores on 111 total touches. Stuck in a bad offense and behind Hall on the touches that mattered most, Allen was also hurt by the late-season emergence of fellow rookie Isaiah Davis.
Several players have a lot riding on the line, starting with running back Breece Hall. This is nothing new, as there was speculation the Jets would trade the fourth-year veteran, who looked like a star in the making as a rookie, this past offseason.
