Flight operations faced disruptions on Tuesday due to volcanic ash from Ethiopia. Several international flights were cancelled and delayed. Air India cancelled 13 flights as aircraft underwent checks.

Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano, long believed to be dormant, erupted for the first time in nearly 10,000 years, sending a massive ash and sulphur-dioxide plume nearly 15 km high.

Air India, one of the country’s largest airline companies, canceled nearly a dozen flights on Monday and Tuesday passing through the Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai airports.
