Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane -- one of the most powerful hurricane landfalls on record in the Atlantic basin.

Many people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas in Kingston, ordered to do so by the government.

Melissa is a Category 5 storm with sustained wind speeds of 180 mph (280 kph).
