The House Ethics Committee announced Wednesday that it is launching an investigation into allegations that GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas had an affair with an aide who later died by suicide.

Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales has dropped his bid for reelection after navigating mounting scrutiny over his affair with a former staffer who later died.

Earlier on Thursday, the top four House GOP leaders, led by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), called on Gonzales to withdraw from his reelection race.
