A bill expanding who can use Colorado's red flag gun law passed its first committee Tuesday at the Colorado State Capitol.

The Senate approved the measure on a near-party-line vote, 20-13. Sen. Nick Hinrichsen, of Pueblo, was the only Democrat to vote against the measure.

The proposed expansion would allow health care facilities and schools to ask for certain protection orders.
