The Russia Day holiday marks the country's 1990 declaration of sovereignty, more than a year before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The US State Department congratulated Russia on its national holiday for the first time since the start of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine and reaffirmed that Washington will remain engaged in efforts to end the war.

Marco Rubio said the U.S. is "committed to supporting the Russian people as they continue to build on their aspirations for a brighter future."
