Conditions are expected to improve for Invest 96-L to develop into a tropical depression, according to the NHC.

A tropical depression could form late this weekend or early next week as the system moves west-northwestward to northwestward across the central and subtropical Atlantic, the NHC said. The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 0 percent, while the chance of formation in the next seven days is 50 percent.

A new tropical disturbance, designated Invest 96L, has formed in a region of the Atlantic known to be a hotbed for major hurricanes.
