A 600-foot cargo ship that caught fire June 3 near the remote Aleutian island of Adak is still burning. The crew of the Morning Midas was rescued with no injuries, but the ship is adrift in the North Pacific with potentially hazardous cargo aboard.

The US Coast Guard evacuated 22 crew members from a cargo ship fire in Alaska. The blaze broke out on the UK-flagged cargo vessel Morning Midas on Tuesday, June 3, approximately 300 miles southwest of Adak Island.

The crew of the Morning Midas saw smoke first coming from a section of the ship containing electric vehicles, the company said.

No one was injured in the blaze on the car carrier, which was bringing about 3,000 vehicles, including 800 electric models, from China to Mexico.

Hundreds of kilometers south of Alaska, a car freighter has caught fire with hundreds of electric cars on board. The crew was completely evacuated.

The cargo ship Morning Midas, carrying approximately 3,000 vehicles, including around 800 EVs, was abandoned on Tuesday after a fire broke out during its voyage from China's Yantai port to Mexico. All crew members were safely evacuated.

Midas, a 600-foot Liberian-flagged car and truck carrier, left China's Yantai on May 26. The cars were being shipped to Lazaro Cardenas, which is a major Pacific port in Mexico.
