The NFL preseason provides opportunities of all shapes and sizes, with game plans and intended playing time always etched lightly in pencil on a coach's prep sheet. Anything can happen to dictate whether those plans are followed during a game.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spent some time before Saturday's preseason game running up and down the Kansas City Chiefs sideline, yelling, jumping and psyching himself up for his first game action since last season's Super Bowl.

Mahomes finished the drive with a statline of 1/1, 1 YD and 1 TD. It doesn't seem like anything too extraordinary, but he got the job done. After that drive, his night was over, as the Chiefs' backup quarterbacks, including Gardner Minshew and Bailey Zappe, entered the game.
