ST. LOUIS — A man is battling for his life at a St. Louis-area hospital after being infected with a rare brain-eating amoeba after waterskiing at the Lake of Ozarks last week, according to state health officials.

Health officials in Missouri say a resident has contracted a lab-confirmed case of what is commonly known as "brain-eating" amoeba, and the individual had been at the Lake of the Ozarks before falling ill.
