WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for President Donald Trump’s plans to downsize the federal workforce despite warnings that critical government services will be lost and hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be out of their jobs.

The unsigned decision lifts a lower court ruling that briefly stopped the Trump administration from cutting down the federal workforce while a legal challenge worked through the court system. The Supreme Court is now allowing federal agencies to slash jobs even before the legality of Trump’s plan has been decided.

It’s the latest Supreme Court action on a Trump administration request for emergency relief from a lower court ruling.
