Very much enjoyed our visit here. Be mindful of the mosquitos in the parking lot, grassy areas along the river, and on the boardwalk. Great self and guided tours. Guides were friendly and well info… Full review by Alan H

An absolute amazing experience that anyone who is able bodied should visit. The ship was so interesting and had so much to tell. Full review by cathymH3785BZ
will be visiting for 1st time in Wilmington and both hubby and I are history bluffs but the datesa I put in for online tours said they have no openings? can people explore on their own without booking a tour? just wont't have added guide I guess - or we won't have access to below deck ? We did not have a scheduled tour either but were able to FULLY explore the battleship without any issues. There was plenty of information at the various locations to explain what you are looking at and much informative story boards. Definitely worth the visit -if you are claustrophobic you probably wont want to explore the lowest level.
How long does it take to tour the ship? Is it appropriate for 6 year olds?

Absolutely it's appropriate for 6 year olds......usually it takes a good 2 hours to walk through the ship.....my father-in-law lived on that ship for over 4-5 years and also became a tour guide. He gave us a personal tour that took 3 hours but it went so fast because it was so interesting to hear his stories.
Is this a good place to go on a field trip? I'm going with my school in May and this is one of the spots we are going to. I am still debating whether or not to go and this is probably going to be the difference.

Absolutely! Not only is this a historical battleship, it’s a war memorial too. We are from the UK and learned so much about the functions, war history, local motivation, the living conditions and technology involved in operating a magnificent, affective and efficient battleship Enjoy!
No, it is not handicapped accessible. The only way to tour the ship is to go up and down steep, ladder-like stairs. A wheelchair could be used on the deck possibly but not below.
